Homeland of
research on sustainable fashion and textiles
NewTexEco (New Textile Ecosystems) is the sustainable textile research community of ArtEZ, Saxion and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) in collaboration with a wide range of practice partners. NewTexEco was made possible by an eight-year SPRONG grant from NWO/SIA to strengthen research on a sustainable and regenerative textile sector. At the core of NewTexEco are five lectureships from ArtEZ (Fashion, Tactical Design), Saxion (Sustainable & Functional Textiles) and HvA (Fashion Research & Technology, Fashion Identity). Thanks to the diverse knowledge domains of these professorships and the involvement of around 30 practice partners, we can connect and further develop data, knowledge and skills in trans-disciplinary research for innovations in every phase of the textile chain: from production, design and (re)use.
The Loopholes Circular Innovation Roadmapping Toolkit helps designers, researchers, businesses and policymakers to build a circular textile supply chain together. This strategic toolkit, developed within the NewTexEco network, contains 50+ maps around digitisation, sustainability, business models and chain collaboration. Tested in practice, emerging from transdisciplinary research.

This guide provides an overview of 115 Dutch textile organisations across the entire value chain and gives insight into the Netherlands’ circular textile ecosystem, with inspiring projects and collaborations. As a result, it provides a blueprint for future circular collaborations, both nationally and internationally.

Article available only in Dutch.
This report, based on the research in ‘Going Eco Going Cellulose’ (Saxion/ArtEZ 2017-2019) describes a design-driven, multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary design approach and forms of co-creation, and offers insights into (newly developed) circular design principles.
This is a further development of ‘Closing the Loop Design Guideline for Recycling’, based on the research ‘Going Circular Going Cellulose’ (Saxion/ArtEZ, 2018-2020). This guideline provides practical tools for fashion and textile designers to achieve circular designs.
This article presents the results of the research project ‘Going Eco, Going Dutch’ (2015-2017), which investigated the production, design and branding of fashion textiles made from locally produced hemp fibres in the Netherlands.
