Project update
TEXPOWER project has started
Several consortium members from NewTexEco and Saxion University of Applied Sciences have been awarded a substantial multi-year project called TEXPOWER. In the transition to a circular textile chain, this project aims to develop innovative technologies and demonstrate scalability in closed-loop textile-to-textile recycling.
The TEXPOWER project (acronym for Textile Polycotton Waste Evaluation and Recycling) has been awarded by RVO. This project was submitted under the National Growth Fund CP.NL call.
TEXPOWER was created as a collaborative with 9 circular chain partners, consisting of both large companies and SMEs and knowledge institutions: CELLiCON, DPI (as coordinator and on behalf of CPI, together with ISPT), Enschede Textile Stad, Frankenhuis, KringCoop, SaXcell, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Spinning Jenny and Textile Fiber Boost. We will work on this project for the next 5 years with a total budget of €9.0M.
What is its purpose?
Polycotton is one of the most common textiles in both apparel and interior textiles. Together, we aim to build a transparent, circular value chain for polycotton. This chain will be implemented for the future-proof earning capacity of the Netherlands.
We achieve this goal by developing:
- accurate, innovative and efficient identification, sorting and data processing techniques;
- removal techniques for interfering substances;
- mechanical and chemical recycling techniques of polycotton.
In this way, we achieve fibre-to-fibre recycling. The high-quality raw materials are spun into polycotton yarns, which can be woven into functional textiles for workwear, for example.
Besides the nine partners mentioned above, several 3rd parties are involved to deploy their knowledge and innovative technologies. Together, we realise a stable, functional circular chain.
