ABOUT ANNEMARIE & OVERLAP

Annemarie Huirne is a fashion designer and artist by training. Since the founding of Overlap, she and her team have been demonstrating how fashion can be experienced in a more sustainable way. They do this by using creativity to add value and meaning to clothing and by encouraging a different approach to fashion consumption from a fixed location. She is the programme manager of the slow fashion art event FÆES-›!T, which is held annually as part of Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week.

The Overlap team consists of: fashion designers, textile experts, creative makers and artists. Based in Enschede, the Overlap Slow Fashion Station is a place where people come together to swap, borrow, repair, restyle and upcycle clothes. We believe that creativity is the most important factor in expressing yourself and connecting with your clothes and with others. Finding joy in creating your own designs or repairing your clothes yourself. Exploring and questioning the boundaries between different disciplines; fashion as an (applied) art form versus wearable art, socio-cultural with a touch of activism, and finding creative overlap within this through collaboration with others.

In October, they’re celebrating with their festival to show that things can be done differently! FÆES-›!T (Fashion Art Experience Enschede; ‘Sustainable – Imaginary – True’) Fabricated by OVERLAP.
