Network event Care & Repair
The amount of clothing produced worldwide has doubled in the last 20 years, while we wear our clothes for shorter and shorter periods of time. Extending the lifespan of clothes is one of the most effective ways to reduce environmental impact. But how can we encourage this? Currently, the focus is mainly on technical longevity, while factors such as emotional attachment, cultural norms and knowledge also play a crucial role. Designers, brands and retailers have little insight into the behaviour of users after purchase, while this provides the valuable information on how clothes are actually worn and maintained.
The Care & Repair project
Care & Repair is a collaborative project of our partners ArtEZ lectorates Fashion and – Art education as Critical Tactics (AeCT), the Fashion & Technology lectorate of Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Fabriek Fris. The project is one of five ideas selected by the CLICKNL programme council from the 50 project ideas submitted, which together cover the full spectrum of knowledge development around designing for transitions.
Call for collaboration
We are looking for partners to jointly develop systemic solutions that promote circular user behaviour and want to contribute to Care & Repair. Our consortium would benefit from:
✅ A brand or outlet that sells directly to consumers
✅ A company with expertise on care versus repair
✅ A company with experience with care & repair in other design or service contexts
Would you like to contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry or would you like to speak with people from our network?
On Tuesday 25 March, from 15.00 to 17.00, we will organise an event for companies (and other parties) interested in joining the Care & Repair project, to learn more about this topic, or to contribute questions or knowledge around opportunities for this project. The programme will consist of a presentation, an interactive programme and drinks afterwards.
Location: Museum Arnhem, Utrechtseweg 87, Arnhem.
You can register via this online form (before 21 March, space is limited) or indicate that you wish to be kept informed.
See you on 25 March!
