3D NXT LEVEL 3.0 at AMFI: Driving Digital Fashion Innovation

On November 21-22, over 150 fashion professionals and students gathered at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) for the 3D NXT LEVEL 3.0 event. Co-organized by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and sponsored by Alvanon and Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, the two-day conference spotlighted the latest developments in digital product creation (DPC) and the integration of 3D technology across the fashion value chain.

Insights and Innovations
Day two opened with a keynote from Prof. Dr. Ir. Troy Nachtigall (AMFI/TU Eindhoven/NewTexEco), who emphasized the role of 3D tools in achieving circularity by 2040. Nachtigall’s presentation underscored the importance of treating data as a design material, enabling sustainable and adaptive workflows through platforms like Clo and Alvanon.
Speakers from companies such as INDG showcased innovations like digital twin creation, as seen in their collaboration with Speedo, which eliminated physical sampling and accelerated production timelines. Meanwhile, alumni like Tess van Zalinge and The Fabricant highlighted 3D technology’s creative potential and scalability, with The Fabricant introducing AI-powered tools to democratize digital design.

Collaborative Path Forward
Discussions revealed the industry’s challenges in transitioning to 3D processes, especially for smaller companies. However, the consensus was clear: scalable adoption requires a tailored, problem-solving approach. The event ended with a call for collaboration and innovation, inspiring attendees to drive sustainability and efficiency through digital fashion.
This event reaffirmed 3D technology’s transformative potential, offering a glimpse into a more sustainable and innovative future for the fashion industry.
