SaXcell

SaXcell is a textile innovation company based in Enschede, the Netherlands. Founded in 2015 from research at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the company focuses on chemical recycling of cotton-rich textile waste. SaXcell has developed a proprietary closed-loop pulping method that produces high-quality cellulose pulp tailored for the lyocell process. This enables true circularity by turning used textiles into new SaXcell fibres with consistently high performance.

SaXcell works with a sustainable lyocell process, which is far more environmentally friendly than the viscose route. The lyocell system operates in a closed loop and uses significantly less water and fewer chemicals. Tests also show that SaXcell fibres take up dyes more efficiently than cotton, so less dyestuff is required to reach the same colour depth. This reduces environmental impact across dyeing and finishing.

The resulting fibres are strong, soft and fully compatible with existing spinning, weaving and knitting operations. SaXcell fibres are already in commercial production with leading fibre manufacturers and have been tested across the textile chain, making them a scalable solution for brands aiming for genuine textile-to-textile recycling.

By converting waste textiles into new premium fibres, SaXcell supports the transition from a linear model to a circular system built on resource efficiency, reduced environmental pressure and high-quality, long-lasting products.
