Facilities
The three NewTexEco UAs’s – ArtEZ, Saxion and HvA – have workshops and labs that are important for our research. These include traditional and modern machines for various textile operations (weaving, knitting, etc.), but also 3D scanning equipment, for example.
In time, we want to make these labs accessible to students, teachers, researchers and partners of NewTexEco. This is not yet the case.
This section is still under development. Not all workshops, lab facilities and equipment are already listed here.

Mesdan Laboratory Shredding Machine 337S
The Mesdan Laboratory Shredding Machine 337S can be used for the mechanical recycling of textiles. Starting from 20 grams a variety of textile material can be shredded into fibres. Contact: textiellab@saxion.nl
Textechno Fibrotest
The Textechno Fibrotest measures fiber bundle length and strength, providing essential data for assessing fiber quality in textile production and recycling. Contact: textiellab@saxion.nl
Instron 68sc-1kn tensile tester
The Instron 68SC-1kN tensile tester measures single fiber strength and elongation and includes an additional setup for yarn tensile testing, making it essential for material durability analysis. Contact: textiellab@saxion.nl
Mesdan Oil Extractor
The Mesdan Oil Extractor is needed to assess the oil, grease, and lubricant content in fibers and yarns, which is crucial for quality control, processing efficiency, and recycling suitability. Excess oils and lubricants can affect dyeing, finishing, and mechanical recycling processes, making their precise measurement essential for maintaining consistent textile performance and sustainability. Mesdan Laboratory Carding Machine 337A
The Mesdan Laboratory Carding Machine 337A is part of the mini spinning line and is used to open, blend, and align fibers before further processing. It works in combination with the Coiler, which forms the web into a sliver. The machine can process 10–40 grams per batch. Contact: textiellab@saxion.nl
Mesdan Stiro Roving Lab 3371
The Mesdan Stiro Roving Lab 3371 processes the sliver from the carding machine into a roving through a drawing step, preparing it for further spinning. Contact: textiellab@saxion.nl
