Summer School Weaving – Unique opportunity at Enschede Textile City

Discover the world of jacquard weaving during the Summer School Weaving!
Especially for this occasion, our partner Enschede Textielstad will open its doors for a five-day summer course during which you will learn the basics of jacquard weaving and design. Under the guidance of professionals, you will work with professional weaving software and on an industrial Picanol loom with Bonas jacquard.

You will delve into binding techniques, yarn qualities and design choices, after which you will design and weave your own set of tea towels. Depending on your level, the design will be adjusted in difficulty.

You will also visit partners within the circular textile network in Twente; local cooperation is a crucial element within the work of Enschede Textielstad.

Programme Summer School Weaving

Day 1: Introduction and getting to know each other
On the first day, you will get to know the different looms in our factory: from shuttle to dobby, jacquard and the SmartCreel. You will also learn more about weaving and binding leather.
Day 2: Development and design
The second day takes a deeper look at jacquard weaving and the testing of
different yarns on the loom. We will make sample patches that you can later use when developing your own product.
Day 3: Design and circularity
Now you start developing your own product design. Selecting suitable yarns, appropriate bindings and researching designs will challenge you to create an interesting product. You will also go on a field trip to a circular company in the region.
Day 4: Design development
You will have time to continue working on your design and to test and weave the products on the loom.
Day 5: Finishing designs and presentation
In the morning, you finish your designs. In the afternoon, we present our created work to each other and take some time to reflect on the experiences and knowledge gained.
