Billie van Katwijk
Billie van Katwijk is a designer, artistic researcher and co-founder of De Klerenpartij. In her work, she explores material cycles, waste streams and the political and social issues associated with materials. She studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and completed a Research Master in Artistic Research at the University of Amsterdam. She has worked as a lecturer and coach at AMFI.
Together with Dagan Cohen, she founded De Klerenpartij: a speculative political movement that uses humour, debate, motions and collective decision-making to bring the transition to a fairer, circular and local clothing system into the public and political arena. Through her practice, Billie develops artistic research, education, public programmes and participatory working methods centred around materials and systemic change.
Partners can approach Billie for artistic and design-based research into materials and textile supply chains, speculative design and political fiction, and the development of public and participatory programmes. Through De Klerenpartij, she translates complex issues surrounding production, consumption, repair, waste and policy into accessible debates, motions and collective decision-making. She is keen to contribute ideas on collaborations between designers, researchers, educational institutions, businesses, public authorities and civil society organisations, and is available for research, workshops, lectures and public interventions.
