Summerschool 3D Knit 2026

Are you a professional, student or teacher with an interest in knitting and innovative techniques? Discover the future of textiles during the five-day Summerschool 3D Knit 2026 at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. You will learn how to design, programme and produce seamless knitted garments using the latest digital knitting technologies, with a strong focus on sustainability, circularity and experimentation.

For whom.

This summer school is aimed at designers, students, teachers and professionals in fashion, textiles and related disciplines who want to learn about 3D knitting technology and digital production methods. Basic knowledge of knitting or design is a plus, but experience with programming is not required.

What will you do?

During this five-day course, you will work in small teams on one collaborative 3D knitted garment. You will go through the entire design process: from initial experiments to a fully realised final product.

You will start with an introduction to the software SDS ONE APEX4 and the Shima Seiki WholeGarment knitting machines. You will then develop test patches and explore different structures, materials and techniques. The second half of the week focuses on experimentation and creativity, translating these insights into an integral design that you will programme, produce and finish yourself.

The week concludes with a public presentation showcasing the results and participants reflecting on the process.

About the Summerschool

The Summerschool 3D Knit 2026 is organised by the 3D Knit Robotlab of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The lab focuses on innovative and sustainable applications of 3D knitting, producing garments directly from the machine with minimal waste.

Under the guidance of lab coordinator Leslie Eisinger, you will work with cutting-edge technology and develop skills at the intersection of design, technology and circular thinking.

Programme and costs

The summer school will take place from Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July 2026 and is open to NewTexEco members. A limited number of free spots are available for selected students.
