Our Evolution of Quality in Dutch Merino Wool (2005 – Now)
Partner in our network: wool farm Blij Bezuiden – DutchMerino
Janny Wijna and Jean-Paul van den Bunder strongly believe in the value of wool. They have been breeding Merino sheep in the Netherlands since 2005: started with 4 ewes and grown to a healthy population of 150. By importing rams, they maintain a broad gene pool. Their focus: strong, friendly animals with high-quality, soft wool.
Sustainable breeding
As co-founders of the Dutch Fine Wool Merino Studbook (NFWM, 2019), they work to ensure consistent top quality. They manage their land ecologically: few worming agents, regular manure testing and smart pasture rotation ensure healthy sheep as well as strong wool fibres.
From fleece to yarn
As the main product, the wool is processed in Italy, where the necessary expertise is available. The result: GOTS-certified merino yarn in various colours of premium quality.
Innovation and vision for the future
With agroforestry, including walnut and fodder trees, they increase biodiversity and animal welfare. In this way, they show that agriculture can enhance nature.
From sheep to jumper
The collaboration with AMFI connects sustainable Merino wool with Whole Garment knitwear: innovative, comfortable clothing with a clear story of origin, animal welfare and environment.
