Symposium De Nieuwe Draad
On Thursday 2 April 2026, Textile Wearable Labs, together with NewTexEco, is organising the symposium De Nieuwe Draad in Hengelo. The day will focus on the innovative power of textiles in the eastern Netherlands, with inspiring speakers, interactive sessions and plenty of opportunity to experience prototypes and new materials.
Why you don’t want to miss the symposium The New Thread 2026
The New Thread brings together the creative and innovative power of the textile sector in the eastern Netherlands. During the symposium, you will discover how designers, researchers and companies are working towards a circular and regenerative textile chain. There will be a mix of lectures, panel discussions and an interactive exhibition.
Innovation in textiles: sustainable and circular solutions
The programme showcases inspiring examples of how textiles can contribute to a sustainable future. Think of hospital mattresses from Remat, Riverfashion (fashion made from plastic from the river IJssel) and the use of unexpected fibres, such as pineapple and ginger. Companies such as Spinning Jenny and Enschede Textielstad also share their knowledge and vision.
“With The New Thread, we are showing how research, creativity and entrepreneurship are coming together to make the textile sector circular and regenerative.”
Biotextiles and new production methods
Experts such as Astrid Hage (biotextiles) and Pascal Betten will present their latest research and projects. Themes such as biotextiles, regenerative materials and innovative production methods will be discussed in detail. Besides listening, visitors will also get the chance to experience prototypes and samples for themselves.
