Story Lab: New Fashion Narrative

The problem of fashion is embedded in the word itself
To be – and stay – ‘in fashion’ fuels endless cycles of production and consumption. This undermines the viability of our planet and leads to human exploitation. The question is therefore: how can we shape a new cultural narrative about the value of clothes and textiles in our lives?

If we really want to become more sustainable, technical innovation alone is not enough. We need to challenge the cultural narrative that lies beneath this system.

That is why the lectorate Fashion Design & Identity (Hogeschool van Amsterdam), together with Fashion Research & Technology, CHANGENCY and the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) are organising the Story Lab: New Fashion Narrative. This day is dedicated to exploring, exchanging and shaping new values and narratives that enable a more sustainable, equitable fashion practice.

We invite students, researchers, policy makers, entrepreneurs, designers and other partners to join us in building this new narrative – a fashion that respects people and planet.
